Description This handmade long silk scarf is 137 cm long and 27 cm wide. Niji has been dyed using the traditional Japanese marbling technique of suminagashi, which creates the effect of ripples on water. To produce the ripple effect the scarf is first soaked in a mordant, which fixes the colour, and then dried. Ink is then floated on water, rather than marbling size. First a drop of ink is placed on the water very gently with a paintbrush. In the centre of this a drop of dispersant or another colour is placed, then a dot of ink in the centre of that. This process is repeated up to 100 times or so per set of ripples. As more paint and dispersant is added, the ripples flow outwards. The entire process is repeated many times in one scarf. Niji has a narrow hand-rolled hem. While every attempt has been made to represent colours correctly, they will vary from screen to screen. However, if you are unhappy with the colour I accept returns, provided you use tracked postage. All marbled beauty scarves as washable at low temperatures and can be tumble dried on a low setting although I strongly recommend hand washing in warm water and drip drying. Iron with a two spot (UK) iron.
